"I'm looking at a 2000 5401a with 49k. My question is because it is an automatic, can you still get the sport package with the bigger wheels, sport suspension, steptronic, and sports seats. I have looked for months, but it doesn,t seem like this vehicle was available. I'm willing to settle for this car I am looking at, if it means I won't be able to find everything that I want. The automatic has a S mode, does this mean I can shift? Thanks for the help."

Thanks for the inquiry! I think the 5 series Moderator, kigerka (http://www.ultimate-bmw.com/u-forum/member.php?find=lastposter&f=49), will probably be able to answer your question...

The S mode is Sport. Basicaly you get fast shifting and the car gears itself for higher acceleration. If you tell me teh last 7 of the VIN I can tell you some info about it. You can more than likely put larger whels on the car. That info you can find on the inside of the door trim or owners manual. Seats are retrofittable but depending on the seats it has now it may cost you some cash.
Tha car may already have a steptronic transmisision since it is automatic. All you have to do is check to see if you can shift the lever over for manual shifting. I believe the 540i's came standard with steptronic.

Hope this info helps
