can someone explain to our members exactly what "alcantara" is?

It's commonly found as a leather substitue for performance products in BMW parts that come into contact with the drivers hands.

Alcantara is a manmade micro-fiber ultrasuede. More info can be found here: http://www.ultrasuede.com/products/automotive/oem/
