To find the correct water pump options for your car I entered:

1. BMW
2. 1997
3. E39 528i
4. Cooling System
5. Water Pump

that gave me the results for ALL E39 528i.

Now the next step is to look where it says "Applications" for each part...

You'll see that one group of parts says "528i thru 08/98 E39"

Since you have a 1997 528i E39, those are the ones that work for you.

We have three options for you:

Option 1: 11517527799-52
Option 2: 11517527799-58
Option 3: 888010330-645 (high performance racing water pump)

Any of the three options above will work for your application based on you actually having a car that was made before 08/1998.
