My 1997 E36 323i Coupe auto is doing all sorts of weird things:
1. Tacho will drop to zero, engine stops and then immediately starts to drive again, no warning lights. If stationary engine will stop completely.
2. Tacho at idle is 600 rpm should be 750 rpm.
3. Milage and trip meter sometimes displays fully and sometimes only the top half and the above occurs when the bottom half is missing.
4. Straight after the start/stop sequence when driving the engine produces low power.
5. An engine switch off, reset and start will cure the above.
6. At full throttle the power comes in stepped wave, not even power.
7. Exhaust emmisions at idle are spot on.
8. No fault codes apparent to explain the fault.
I have changed the idle control valve and the air flow sensor. The above can happen two, three or four times in a row and then not again for a couple of days. It could be a throttle position sensor or a faulty ECU or what. Any suggestions please, its doing my head in and I do not wish to pay BMW repair prices! :(
