I currently drive a 1999 T reg 323i. I just tried to start it and all i got was a repeated clicking sound which coincided with all the external lights flashing. The engine isn't even trying to turn over. It's done this once before but was ok after i turned the alarm on then back off.
Occasionally the alarm won't switch on when it's cold.
I do think it's probably an alarm problem but i just wondered if anyone else has had the same problem and what the outcome was.
Thanks

I recently bought a 1995 Land Rover Discovery and I had the same issue.

After swapping out batteries and brain storming like crazy, I eventually narrowed the issue down to a random electrical gremlin associated with the alarm system disconnecting the starter.

Here's what I did to "fix" it.

When you get out of your car, make sure that your dome lights, etc. all turn on to their full brightness, or normal setting. IF they do NOT, then manually turn your headlights on and off.

You will probably see your interior lights go to normal, and then the car's clicker should work fine and the car should start like normal.

I can't tell you how to kill this issue for good, but, I haven't had any problems with non-starts now for about 3 weeks, after I went through about 2 rounds of the turning the lights on and off.

Try that next time this happens to you and see what happens!
